Born on the south side of Indianapolis in the early '80s, I attended parochial schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. My parents were concerned about the quality of education provided by the public school system in Indianapolis. Even when we struggled to pay for everything else, my sister and I stayed in a school that took a considerable amount of the family income because our parents knew it was the best way to give us a chance to get out of poverty. Proving them right as we both have advanced degrees and have no problems providing for our children.
After high school, I attended Purdue University. I got my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Organizational Leadership and Supervision. While going into education was always in the back of my mind, I hadn't committed to the life. (And it is a commitment!)
I got married in 2003 and, shortly after graduating from college, moved to central Texas with my husband. We followed his job, as we had always agreed to go where they paid us. In 2013, we welcomed our beautiful, smart, spunky little daughter, forever changing how I looked at my role in the world.
Jumping around from career to career, I couldn't find my place. I walked into MCC alternative certification office in May of 2010, a short conversation a review of my transcripts, and I was moving fast. By August, I had completed the classes and taken the test, and had my own classroom. And fell in love with a career that kept me on my toes and always learning. 10 years later, I was offered a role as a part-time campus Instructional Technology Coach. Teaching Calculus and Statistics in the morning and helping the teacher in the afternoon. From there, it was a whirlwind of decisions, and now I am the district Instructional Technology Coach. I received my Masters in Educational Technology and Leadership from Lamar University and am always looking to grow more.
